Since graduating from the University of Michigan in 1984, Terry LaBan has coaxed a living from the hard and stony soil of professional cartooning. Beginning as a political cartoonist for the Ann Arbor News in the mid-'80s, LaBan gained national renowned as a member of the alternative comix elite with the publication of his comic book series, "Unsupervised Existence", by Fantagraphics Books in 1989. That series ran seven issues, and was followed with another, "Cud", in 1992. After eight issues of Cud, LaBan went over to Dark Horse Comics in 1995, where his third series "Cud Comics" ran another eight issues, till 1998.
Besides in his own books, LaBan's comics and cartoons have appeared in a vast number of magazines and anthologies over the years, including Blab, Mad Magazine, Nickelodeon Magazine and Details. He's been staff illustrator and political cartoonist for the alternative weekly In These Times from 1990 till the present. He also continues to work as an freelance illustrator and a writer for various comic book companies, most notably DC Comics and the European behemoth Egmont, which publishes books featuring Disney characters.
