Lines On Paper Artist Bio - SERGIO ARAGONES

Sergio Aragonés' always-wordless drawings have embellished Mad's margins since 1962, shortly after the Spanish-born artist moved to the United States from Mexico. He had been cartooning since childhood, amusing his friends with his rapid-fire drawings. He continues during his study of architecture in college, where he also studied mime with Alexandro Jodorowsky, indulging his interest in nonverbal communication. Befitting his reputation as the "World's Fastest Cartoonist," over the years that Aragonés has been a regular contributor to Mad Magazine.


Aragones has also illustrated several books and animated films, co-created the humorous magazine Plop!, one of the first comics to attempt to assimilate underground comics into the mainstream, and develop d the comic book "Groo the Wanderer", the first creator-owned comic distributed to the general newsstand market. Over the years, Aragonés has won numerous National Cartoonist Society awards in several categories.
