Leonard Rifas is an American comics creator
who is interested in various techniques for visualising our global
predicament. In 1976, he made All-Atomic Comics, about the use of
nuclear energy, and in the same year founded EduComics, an educational comic book publisher and creator of Corporate CRIME Comics, All-Atomic Comics, Energy Comics, Food Comics, Tobacco Comics, AIDS News, The Big Picture: visualizing the global economy, and other titles.
Rifas is a comics scholar who has been published in The International Journal of Comic Art, the Comics Journal, ImageText, and other publications. Since 1986, he has taught cartooning to students ranging from first
graders to senior citizens. He also wrote books and articles about
comics, such as 'The Forgotten War Comics: the Korean War and American
Comic Books' (1991). He taught a course on graphic novels and sequential art at Seattle Central Community College.
