LINES ON PAPER Artist Bio - Archer Prewitt

Archer Prewitt leads something resembling a double life, dividing his time between touring Japan and North America with his band
"The Sea and The Cake" and long days and nights in his Chicago apartment drawing Sof' Boy comic books, postcards, and calendars.

Prewitt was born in Kentucky in 1963. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute in Missouri and graduated with a printmaking degree in 1985. Much of the next decade was devoted to his musical pursuits as he played in numerous bands that covered a broad range of styles, from hard-core punk to pop. Some of the more notable bands Prewitt has played in include the Bangtails, Mudhead, the Coctails, and the Sea and Cake, and he has also released two solo recordings, "In The Sun" and "White Sky".

In the early 1990's, Prewitt started drawing and self-publishing Sof' Boy mini-comics, some of which were printed in color. Sof' Boy has also made several appearances in a number of anthologies, including Blab!, Drawn & Quarterly, Zero Zero and Kramers Ergot issue 9. In 1997, Drawn & Quarterly started publishing Sof' Boy as a full color comic book series and a Sof' Boy book collection will be published by 2002.

Another Prewitt character, Funny Bunny, has made appearances in publications as diverse as Entertainment Weekly On Campus, Chicago's New City weekly newspaper, and Slant, the free give-away paper once published by the Urban Outfitters chain.

Prewitt has created collectible soft figurines of his Sof' Boy character, as well as beat poet Allen Ginsberg, Reggae musician Lee Scratch Perry and Clavivox player Raymond Scott, produced by Press Pop Gallery.
